SCUM! they both yelled in unison as they met in the middle of the hall.

June was red in the face and still clutching the pendent. Chris wore a grimace and his hands were shaking. How was this going to go down? Were they going to have it out right there? Suddenly Chris shook his head and looked at June with a concerned face. June was caught off guard by his sudden change in demeanor, but it was what he did next that truly surprised her without warning Chris turned away and walked towards the door.

Where do you think youre going? she asked, the anger steadily rising in her.

And with that he was gone. June watched him through the windows in the door as he walked out into the parking lot and disappeared among the cars. Something fell from her hand as she released her grip. Looking down she saw the pendent lying on the ground. What had just happened? She wanted to kill him! She was going to punch him and he looked like he was ready to do the same to her and thenhe walked away.

Reaching down and grabbing the piece of jewelry June could feel her heart slowing down and the realization taking hold. She wasnt angry, not anymore, now she was terrified. What if he really was cheating on her? He had told her he loved her! She had let him do all those things to her and the things she had done June felt dirty. Her stomach twisted as her head started to spin. Everything was happening too fast!

The trash can fly through the air until it collided with a brick wall. A loud yell filled with pain sailed through the air as Chris fell to his knees in defeat. If he hadnt left Junehe was afraid to think about what might have happened. He had been such a fool! There was no way she would cheat on himno matter how suave Marcus was. June sat through the rest of the day staring out the windows of her classrooms. She didnt make a sound even when her friends would try to find out what was wrong. When Jody tried to get her to talk, June almost slapped her. The Asian teen couldnt even make eye contact with the blonde girl. Pushing through the back doors of the school on her way to the bike rack she noticed Chris bike was still there.

He had stormed off around lunch and hadnt come back. As June mounted her bike she wondered where he was and then suddenly stopped. What if there was more than one girl he was cheating on her with?

It was Jody. She looked at June, very concerned with the sun shining through her blue eyes. June couldnt even look at her it hurt so much. Next to Chris, Jody had been her best friend. Chris swallowed as he let that sink in. Who was it that had told him June was cheating on him? Who was the slimy little trollip that had spread that vicious rumor and planted those horrible thoughts in his head?

PUCK, Chris yelled standing up, knocking over his bar stool.

Harry backed up a little looking down at his young friend, You mean that guy? he asked pointing to a shrimpy pink elf sitting at a table with a group of various mobster looking types.

June laid on her bed crying into her pillow trying desperately not to think about Chris, but her mind wouldnt stop. Every little thing reminded her of him and she couldnt just throw his stupid necklace away. It hurt so much to think about him, but it hurt even more to think about throwing him away.

When did all of this start? Why did she start thinking about him cheating on her? She thought, NO! She knew he wouldnt cheat on her! He loved her with all his heart, but there was one thing that was more sacred to himhis honor. He would never dishonor himself that way! So why did she think he would?

Suddenly she looked up and let out a vicious roar, PUCK!

He had done it again! The same helper elf that had set her up the first time had done it again! She was going to kill him!

As June skidded to a stop outside the Nook, a magical bar set up right inside Orchid Bay the front window exploded and two blue demons flew out. Raising an eyebrow she walked up to the window and cautiously peered inside. Suddenly she ducked as a third blue demon come flying through the window. The bar had erupted into a full fledged brawl and things were getting messy.

Ripping the door off its hinges, June leapt in and tossed the heavy door at three Orcs, knocking them to the ground. They tried to get up, but she stomped down on the door as she ran up to the next set of combatants. A group of Turoken Dwarves had finished off a couple kegs of beer and were now going at it full bore. Before June even had a chance to stop them though, the group knocked themselves cold ramming their heads into one another.

Looking around for Harry, June found someone she didnt expect to seeChris. He was surrounded by four grey skinned Rock goblins dressed in Italian suits. They were trying to be gangsters and sitting on the shoulder of one was none other than the same twerp she had come looking for. Suddenly the Rock goblins leapt on top of Chris and they tumbled to the ground. June couldnt get to him fast enough, there were too many people in her way! Without warning one of the goblins was sent flying towards the ceiling and fell back to the ground smashing through one of the few cedar tables still standing. Sticking up in the air through the pile of fighters was a blazing hand that reached down lighting one of the goblins on fire. The creature leapt up and spun around trying to put the flames out only to be caught in a clothesline by June. He looked up in confusion, but was met with a hard punch to the face.

There were still two more plus Puck, but by now the little coward was probably searching for a way out of the bar. That was when Harry stepped in. He grabbed both Rock goblins by the ankle and slammed them together knocking them cold before reaching down to lift Chris up. June smiled with relief but then caught sight of her quarry. He was backing away slowly, trying to not to draw attention to himself. The fighting had stopped when Harry got involved, people knew better than to fight with him. Puck forced his way past some more of the denizens, but as he climbed over the remains of a broken table June leapt at him.

YOU! she yelled tackling him to the ground, rolling along until she leapt up holding him by the throat.

The denizens of the bar stepped out of the way as Chris and Harry walked towards her. She looked at Chris and saw he had shattered his glasses yet again. His hair was messy and his shirt was ripped and yetthere was time for that later. Right now it was time for answers.

Who sent you? both teens asked in unison.

They looked at each other. June smiled, but Chris bowed his head and turned back to Puck.

Like Im gonna tell you two losers! he said in his thick accent.

Harry suddenly reached down softly taking Puck from Junes hands, Youre going to tell my little friends what they want to know or else

Puck stood in Harrys palm looking up at him defiantly, Or else what?

Harrys hand was bigger than Puck and moved with surprising speed closing tightly around the elfs neck, Or else Im going to squeeze the life out of you!

Harry rarely got angry, but when he did people ran for cover. It had something to do with his Batoot blood and a lot more to do with the fact that he had at one time been the dreadnaught of the Demon King. He had fought Chris and June on more than one occasion, but he finally saw the light and settled down becoming a friend of the pair. Seconds later Puck was spilling his guts about a man named Cthulu and his servant, the masked boy Dende.

Chris shook hands with Harry before stepping away holding Puck by a rope. June hugged the big Ogre and pecked him on the cheek before walking to Chris side.

Take care o yourselves! Harry called as they walked back towards the center of town.

Neither said a word as they walked. What was there to say? They had both been set up and played for fools and both had gone right along with it

June I Chris started.

Im sorry! June blurted out catching him off guard. II said some things and I thought she was taking deep breaths when he softly pressed his finger against her lips.

Dont apologize for something you didnt do, Chris explained turning back to walk along.

June looked at him as he walked away. She had to apologizeone of them did, didnt they? She ran to catch up with him.

Its not your fault, he explained.

But its not yours either! June stated.

He didnt say anything he just kept his head bowed. How was this going to work if he didnt say anything? She kept up with him as they walked along not speaking a word until he stopped.

We leapt into this thing without even thinking, he calmly said.

June started to panic when he said that, What are you saying? That you want to break up?

Aw its so tragic, Puck chided them.

Chris swung him face first into a nearby tree knocking the annoying elf unconscious and then turned to look June in the eye.

I love you, I always have, and I always will, he explained.

Tears began to well up in her eyes, But you think we should see other people, is that it?

I would never say that, he responded surprising her, I dont want to be with anyone but you.

Then why? Why are you acting so distant? June pleaded.

Because I cant help, but think that we asked for this, he told her.

What? June stammered.

We never talk about anything other than our responsibilities and the rest of the time were playing with each other, he explained, We never say whats really on our minds.

June listened as he explained. Every word of it was true. They had always talked about the past, the present, and the future when they were friends, but then they became more than friends and they stopped talking. She hated to admit it, but they had asked for what had happened.

So what do we do? She softly asked.

Do you still love me? he answered her question with a question of his own.

June stepped forward and buried her face in his chest as the tears flowed freely, With all my heart.

He wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly. The pair stood like that on the sidewalk for a long time not saying a word just cradling one another.

Where do we go from here? June finally asked looking up at him.

She was surprised to see tears in his eyes, We go forward, he said with a weak smile.

Scooping Puck up by his leash, he grabbed her hand and started back down the street.

So would you everyou know, with Jody? June asked.

Chris looked at her out of the corner of his eye, That dependswould you with Marcus?

She burst out laughing punching him in the arm and then wrapped her arm around his waist as they walked home. They had gone to the brink and come out on top. Along the way they had learned some pretty disturbing things about themselves and each other, but for two people who love each other, these were things that could be worked through as long as they had one another
