Epilogue Part 1

I was seven years
old when I realized I loved him. All because he was the one that had
been there for me, the one who had come to my birthday. I cant
really remember what happened that day, but I do remember him and his
goofy smile. Chris hadnt started wearing glasses yetfor that
matter I hadnt developed my powers yet. We were just two friends
that spent all our time together.

Sorry, Im getting ahead
of myself. My name is Juniper Lee and Im the Te Xuan Ze. Chris is
the love of my life and the man I want to spend eternity with. Today
he gave me the surprise of a lifetime, but Ill get to that in a
second.

Its funny when I think about it. Everything Ive
ever experienced, its all been with him. My first love, my first
kiss, my first timeeverything. It was the same for him. Our lives
were hopelessly intertwined. And now, here we are about to embark on
another first. I still cant believe this is how he chose to do
it

Today all started out so innocently. I woke up in his
arms the same way Id done every day since we went away to college.
He laid there staring at me with his big puppy dog eyes begging me to
lay there with him for just five more minutes. Well five minutes
turned into forty-five as we made love again. I was 20 years old, an
aeronautic engineering student well on her way to becoming the next
space shuttle pilot and I couldnt say no to him. Ehthats not
entirely true. I had a big interview that morning with one of the
NASA representatives and Id been really nervous.

Somehow
making love with him always calmed me down. It could be said we were
a couple of horndogs, but the truth was we relied on each other for
absolutely everything. He made everything okay. He was my center as
Ashley called it. I dont know how, but he was never nervous. Sure
hed been afraid at the beginning, but hed gotten over it when
he found out I felt the same way. Today was the first time Ive
actually seen him nervous since then, but I wouldnt figure out why
until later that night.

Chris, my guardian angel, my man, my
love. He supported me in everything I did even when he didnt want
to. He was afraid of my becoming a shuttle pilot because of all the
trouble NASA had been having with shuttles. It seemed like every time
they fixed one thing, something else went wrong. Chris also didnt
want to spend six months alone while I was floating up in space, but
he didnt let his doubts get in the way of what he thought was
right. He pushed me harder and harder picking me up when I fell,
encouraging me when I wanted to quit. He never gave up on me and
thats what makes me love him all the more.

He also had a
big interview today, but it was of a different kind. Chris has been
interning with the FBI and government for over a year now and today
was the first time he would be interviewing a known felon. More than
a known felon, a convicted serial killer. Just like in high school,
Chris is the top of his class. Majoring in criminal justice minoring
in psychology, hes one of the smartest people Ive ever known.
Its why he was chosen for the interview. Today his mentor was
sending him up against someone whod raped and murdered seventeen
women. I just prayed he could stay in control. Chris tends to lose it
when he deals with men who hurt women.

I could see it on his
face as he buttoned up his blue shirt and tightened up his red tie. I
still cant get used to seeing him in a suithe looks so cuteha
ha ha, sorry Im getting off topic. He had never been nervous about
anything to do with his job, but todayhe was sweating, stuttering,
and there was something in his voice. He was keeping something from
me. That was when I saw the small bulge in his pocket. I should have
seen it coming right then and there, butI was worried about
him.

We sat down for breakfast and then left for work. Just
like every morning we kissed before leaving. I had to cut it short
because I could feel something rising in me. He was wearing the
aftershave I gave him last Christmas. It drove me crazy and neither
of us could afford to be late.

Goodbye my knight, I
said teasingly.

Never missing a beat he came back with, Ill
see you tonight princess.

On the ride to my meeting I kept
thinking about the bulge in his pocket, but for some stupid reason I
couldnt figure it out. I should have seen it coming, but I just
couldnt. I felt awkward in my three piece dress. I wanted to be in
my favorite pair of jeans and t-shirtmore than that I wanted to be
back in his arms. Maybe people were right to call me a horndog. Being
with him was always in the back of my mind. God! I need to
concentrate on this!

I was incredibly surprised to find the
man I was supposed to be meeting was actually a woman. Captain Jessie
Wild Card Walters was everything I wanted to be. She had flown
the last shuttle to the International Space Station and she had just
recently gotten back. Jessie was once like me, a fresh faced girl
with dreams of flying. However unlike me, shed gotten into the
space program by flying as a Navy ace. Its how Jessie received the
call sign Wild Card.

She spoke to me about my grades and
physical condition and then she dropped the bomb. I unfortunately
dont have any flight time experience. The most I could ever do on
a space mission is act as the engineer and monitor the shuttles
performance. But it wasnt all bad news. Jessie told me that I had
a choice. I could still get the Air Force training needed to be a
pilotI just needed to surpass every other pilot before me.

It
didnt come as much of a surprise to me. I had always known that
without real flight time experience I would never be allowed to pilot
the shuttle, but my dream wasnt really to pilot. I just wanted to
go into outer space. To see the beauty of the world thousands of
miles above it. I explained that to Jessie and she smiled.

Were
always looking for people who can think on their feet, she
explained, You may be number three in your class, but Ive
looked through all of your tests and projects and Ive gotta say
youre one of the most skilled students Ive ever met. Someday I
hope Ill get the chance to pilot a mission with someone who
actually knows how to get her hands dirty.

With that she
stood and saluted. I returned her salute and then shook her hand
thanking her for the chance. I still couldnt wrap my head around
the fact that she was an actual shuttle pilot! And she wanted to fly
a mission with me!

Oh June, she called as I was leaving,
Here, give me a call sometime and Ill tell you what its
really like to fly one of those bad boys.

I had never met a
pilot who was that genuine, O-okay! I stuttered accepting the
card.

Wow! Not only was she an awesome pilot and friendly
woman, she actually wanted to talk to other people about her
experiences. She actually wanted to talk to me! Ill definitely be
taking her up on her offer.

As I walked down the hall my
thoughts drift back to Chris strange behavior that morning. I
prayed that his interview had gone as well as mine had, but somehow I
knew it hadnt. For over a week leading up to today hed been
going over the profiles for that psycho, taking notes, designing
questions, and more. Id tried to read through one of the profiles,
but I didnt make it through the first paragraph. The man was
completely out of his mind and yet Chris would sit there for hours at
a time reading about the mansexploits.

As I
entered my car my phone went off snapping me from my thoughts. It was
Chris. He didnt sound too happy, but at the same time he was
excited about something.

June Im gonna be a little late
tonight, he explained. That was what he was upset over. The
interview is running a little longer than expected. Hes actually
talking to me and Frank wasnt sure I could pull it off. Frank
was wrong. I knew my man could do it. If no one else could, Chris was
the man for the job.

Okay honey, so what time should I
expect you? I asked trying to sound a little disappointed.

In
all honesty I was so happy for him and for myself I could barely
contain it.

Around 7:00 or 7:30, Chris told me, Im
real sorry beautiful.

Dont be, you do what you have
to do, Ill be waiting for you when you get home, I
responded.

He sounded happier after that, Okay then Ill
see you tonight. I love you princess.

I couldnt help but
laugh, Take care of yourself my knight.

The line went
dead and I was left to my thoughts. It was 5:00 and I had a couple of
hours to blow. Maybe I should see what Jody and Ophelia are up to,
but I just couldnt help dwelling on today. He was hiding
something, I guess Ill just have to wait until tonight.

Jody
and Ophelia asked me to meet them at Best Buy. Maybe they could help
me solve this little mystery. Jody had grown the most since high
school. Shes just as smart as Chris, but her expertise is in
science and math. Its hilarious watching them match wits. She
still likes to wear her jeans and tiny pink t-shirt. She looks so
much more mature than the rest of us and yet she still acts like a
kid. With that body she could have any man she wanted, but she chose
to stay single until after college.

Ophelia had also changed
quite a bit. Her hair was still dyed purple and pink, but she didnt
wear so much black or as much metal. She only wore two pairs of
earrings and a couple of bracelets, but other than that she was a
normal looking girl. She knew that dressing like a Goth would hurt
her chances in the real world so she usually wore a pair of jeans and
black shirt, but today she had on a very baggy pair of khaki pants
and green shirt over a grey long sleeve. It was funny seeing her like
that again, but it had a lot to do with her significant
otherRoger.

Thats right, Ophelia had finally given into
Rogers advances and it turned out she really loved him. Of course
she still picked on him nonstop, but thats because, and lets
face it, Roger keeps setting himself up.

Jody hugged me
tightly the same way she always greeted me all the way back to the
first day we had met. She looked happier than usual, I just sort of
assumed it was because someone had hired her. That girl has had
companies fighting over her for the better part of a year now. When
she finally signs a contract shes gonna be rolling in dough and
shes gonna break a lot of hearts. Ophelia just smiled and wrapped
her arm around my shoulder leading me into the building.

As we
walked into the electronics depot Ophelia surprised me, Rog wants
me to take a look at the plasma screens for our apartment.

Your
apartment? You guys are living together? I asked extremely
surprised.

Yeah we bought it last week and now were just
trying to furnish it, she explained.

We had all grown up so
much. Me and Chris are living together, Ophelia and Roger are moving
in together, Jody has businesses all across the country fighting over
wholl get to hire herit was amazing how far wed all
come.

As we made our way to the TVs something struck me as
strange. They were all showing someone with his back to the screen.
There was something familiar about him, but I couldnt place it. I
was having a real off day because I never could have guessed what
would happen next.

Thanks for bringing her girls, a soft
voice came over the speakers.

Right away I recognized the
voice, how could I not. It was the voice I had come to love.

The
man on the screen turned around revealing himself to be my knight.
Chris wore that same big smile he always did when he was up to
something. I cant believe I didnt see this coming.

Hi
June, he said.

I couldnt help smiling. He had never done
anything like this before, but it was just the kind of thing hed
do.

Weve known each other for our whole lives. Weve
shared every experience side by side and weve made it through it
all intact. Theres not much we havent done, not many journeys
we havent taken, all except for one. June he paused as my
knees went weak. My whole body felt lighter than air as he pulled a
box from his pocket and finished, Will you marry me?

My
face was bright red as the people all around us stared and clapped.
Some cheered others whistled and Jody and Opheliawell they just
smiled crossing their arms. They had set me up, they all had. I
couldnt find my voice as I stared back at him in the screen.
Suddenly he disappeared from the screen and stepped out from behind a
wall of boxes. He was still wearing his suit pants and blue dress
shirt with the sleeves rolled up.

As he walked up to me I
found I still couldnt speak. I was so choked up over the whole
thing that I couldnt answer him and damn him, he wasnt
helping. Chris got down on one knee taking my hand in his and holding
up the engagement ring. He looked so cute and finally I was able to
answer him.

I fell down to my knees, looking directly into his
eyes, and launched myself into his arms kissing him passionately as I
held on to him with all my might. I didnt want to part as I pushed
deeper into the kiss, but finally I had to. Now he was the one
blushing.

What took you so long? I asked teasingly.

He
just smiled back at me lifting me into his arms as the crowd
continued cheering for us. I had never experienced anything like it
in my life. My man was soon to be my husband

The wedding
was on us sooner than I had expected, but I was happy it was finally
here. The sooner it was over the sooner I could go back to having
Chris all to myself.

The whole family is attending just like
expected. Our parents are thrilled that Chris and I are getting
married. Ray-Ray and Ashley are making a special trip to attend. I
still cant believe theyre dating. I didnt think anyone could
be with Ray-Ray that long and not go crazy.

My long-lost
brother Dende has changed since he redeemed himself by helping us
defeat Cthulhu. Although the magical world is still wary of him
because of what he did, theyll soon accept him because of how much
hes been helping me and Chris. You know, it’s as if he was Ah-Mah,
who was the previous Te Xuan Ze, but Dende didn’t become a Te Xuan
Ze.

Ah-Mah has made it so no one, but me, herself, Chris,
Ray-Ray, Ashley, Haku, and the obvious, ask questions about Dende and
where he came from. They just presume hes always been with us so
it all worked out. Dende rebuilt his life and even goes to school
like a normal kid.

Jody is very excited about Dende coming.
Believe it or not, she fell for my little brother. You see, Jody
first met Dende a couple days after the battle with Cthulhu and took
an instant liking to him. The two were always hanging out together
and quickly became friends. Dende was fascinated with Jody, always
asking about her, hanging out with her, and more.

Chris and I
noticed how close Dende and Jody have become over the years. Then one
day, the same way Roger found out about us, I spotted the two of them
alone together. They were kissing for the first time. That was when I
knew that Jody had gotten together with my brother.

Both our
families arrive and we greet them in our way, shaking hands, hugging,
laughing. I laugh as Jody greets Dende in her own way, planting a
huge kiss on him, not caring if theyre in public or not. I have a
weird feeling that I am going to end up related to her one of these
days.

On the way to our apartment our families start talking
about the way the wedding is going to go down. I wish we had left
them out of it… but not everyone is talking about the wedding. As
they speak, I happen to overhear Chris talking with his dad.

Im
proud of you, Chris. Youve found yourself a fine girl. James
said with a smile.

Chris blushed a little as he replied,
Thanks, dad.

That was when his dad dropped the bomb, Of
course, you must understand. You cant forget about your
responsibilities and thats going to be difficult when the two of
you have kids.

Kids? asked Chris, quirking an
eyebrow.

Yes. When they grow up, they may inherit both your
powers and, James whispered to Chris quietly so my family wont
hear, The Te Xuan Zes.

Wow No problem. I wont
ignore my duties. But family comes first. Chris said with a smirk,
remembering the trouble his dad was always going through.

Dont
remind me. James said with a groan, though he couldnt help but
smile.

I smiled. I loved Chris and the prospect of kids with
him its wonderful and at the same time a little scary. Our kids
would have the weight of the world thrust upon them not to mention
they would have my lovers explosive abilities to deal with. Theyd
always be outcasts just like we were, but theyd always have us.
That was something I never had with my parents. I never told them
about my responsibilities. Theres only one person outside my
brothers and grandma that Ive told and hes the man staring at
me from across the room with warm eyes.

I wish I could get our
families out of here and have him to myself, but thats not gonna
happen. Not right now anyway. My mom is making a big deal about him
again and his moms embarrassing him to no end, but I dont think
hes as bothered about it as he used to be.

In the kitchen
I can here Jody bragging to Ophelia about Dende and how much fun
shes having dating a younger man. I never would have thought shed
go for a younger guy, but hey, you cant help who you fall in love
with, right? Roger is in Chriss work room with Dende and Ray-Ray
doing God knows what, but from the sounds of their laughter it cant
be good. I hope they didnt get into his private files again. The
last time they did Chriswell lets just say things didnt end
too well ha ha ha.

Its the day of the wedding and I
cant breathe. I wonder if Chris is as nervous as I am. I cant
believe it! Im finally getting married and Im scared out of my
mind. I hope I dont trip on the walkway. Worse yet, I hope I dont
mess up my vows. I wish I could see Chris, but my mom and Barbara, my
future mother-in-law, wont let me out of the room. Something about
it being bad luck for the bride and groom to see each other before
the wedding. Whatever, I just want this day to be over!

Suddenly
the music starts playing and my dad comes through the door.

Its
time, he says trying his best to muster a smile.

He
carefully takes my hand and leads me down the hall towards the main
chapel. On the way he tells me he cant believe Im so grown up,
that Im getting married, and all the things he promised me he
wouldnt say. I cant blame him though. Im his only daughter
and hes giving me away, but he wouldnt be able to smile about
it if he hadnt given me and Chris his blessing. As we enter the
chapel I immediately catch sight of Chris.

I blush and smile
as I see him wearing a tuxedo for the first time since our Senior
Prom. The big lug looks so uncomfortable. At least now I know Im
not the only one whos nervous. Dad stops in front of the altar and
tries to keep from crying. I can see hes really torn up about
this, but he should be happyI know I am.

The priest smiles,
Who takes this womans hand?

Chris clears his throat,
I do. And then steps down to take me from my dad.

Dad
didnt want to let go, but a smile from me was all it took.
Standing with Chris in front of all those people and all our friends
made me feel so happy. To Chriss side are Dende, Roger, and
Ray-Ray. Behind me are Jody, Ophelia, and Ashley. Out in the front
row I can see my dad trying to comfort mom and a huge smile on
Ah-Mahs face. She was the first one to ever suggest that we were
meant for each other and what do you know, it looks like she was
right. The rest of my family sits quietly watching the wedding, but I
can see it in their eyes, theyd rather be anywhere but here.

Chriss family on the other hand is warm and full of
smiles. His aunts are all in tears while his uncles are smiling and
giving him thumbs up. It would be kind of pathetic if it wasnt so
funny. His parents are doing their best not to break down. In the
back I can see someone cloaked in black and my heart suddenly sinks.
Everyone knows Im getting married today! There was supposed to be
a ceasefire!

Im about to turn and run at the person when
she pulls the hood down to reveal the beautiful purple skin her
father was known for. Samantha was Harry the Bartenders daughter
and our security for the day. Anyone who caused any trouble would be
severely dealt with.

Turning to look at Chris, June blushed
furiously. It was time to start.

We are gathered here today
to witness the marriage of these two wonderful people, Juniper Kim
Lee and Christopher Jack Fields. Marriage is a sacred event between
two people who truly love one another. And now, they bride and groom
would like to read their vows aloud. Chris?

Chris took a
deep breath and began, Juniper, I love you. Today is a very
special day. Long ago you were just a dream and a prayer. This day,
like a dream come true, has answered that prayer. For today, Juniper,
you as my joy will become my crown. I thank the Lord for the honor of
going through time with you. Thank you for being what you are to me.
With our future as bright as can be, I will care for you, honor and
protect you. I lay down my life for you, Juniper, my friend and my
love. Today I give myself to you.

Im on the verge of
tears as he finishes his vows and slips my ring on. What a charmer he
is.

My turn, Chris, I love you and I know you love me. I am
confident that you are destined to be my husband. It is my prayer and
desire that you will find in me the partner designed especially for
you, and in confidence I will submit myself unto you. Therefore,
Chris, I pledge to you my life as an honorable, faithful and loving
wife. Wherever you go I will go, wherever you lay I will lay, your
people shall be my people, and your future my future.

The
priest smiles in amazement as I finish my vows and slip his ring over
his finger.

Now then, if anyone has any objections to the
joining of these two people, speak now or forever hold your peace,
the priest continued on with the ceremony.

The air was tense
as I waited for someone to say something stupid, but no one said
anything. I actually heard people on my side of the chapel crying
although if it was for the wedding or their own insanity Im not
sure.

Then by the great state of California I now pronounce
you husband and wifeyou may kiss the bride, the old priest said
with a smile.

Chris turned to me with that huge grin of his
and slowly lifted the veil over my face. I could see the anticipation
in his eyes. He had waited all day for this! For that matter, so had
I! His lips tickled as they met with my own quivering lips. He pushed
further into the kiss until he was leaning over me holding me up by
my waist. As we parted, the chapel filled with cheers. It was over,
we were officially married!

I dont know what the future
holds for us and I dont care. As long as I have Chris by my side I
know everything will be okay
