Chapter 7: The Helper Elf Strikes Back

The master who send Dende on his mission smiles as the one in question hands over Chris’s pendant.

“You did very well, my young friend.” said the master taking the pendant in hand.

“Thank you, master. What else do you wish from me?” Dende asked as he bowed.

The master smiled. “Nothing at the moment. This next task will be given to our new friend. Come on in, Puck.”

A elf came into the room. He is an Helper Elf, hired to help people. But in the past, this guy was anything but helpful. Puck is the same helper elf who got June in trouble with a teacher and her parents by plagiarizing her report on the platypus while under the employ of a creep named Donnie. Ever since June found out and he was banished, Puck was going from boss to boss doing Helper Elf jobs.

“Yo boss. You called? What should I help you with?” asked Puck, filing his nails.

“I got a job for you. A very important one.”

“What is it? Release some demons? Blow up buildings? Send a plague of clowns on innocent easily frightened kids?” asked Puck eagerly.

“No, no, and NO! Though I may reconsider the clown plague. No, this job involves someone you’re familiar with.” The master smiles as he said, “Do you recalled Juniper Lee?”

Hearing the Te Xuan Ze’s name made Puck very upset. “Juniper Lee? How could I forget her? She ruined Donnie’s plans despite my successful attempt of getting her grounded and then I ended up being sacked by Donnie! She’s a major pain! How could I forget her?”

“Good. Then this is your chance to get vengeance.” The master say, eager that Puck has a grudge against June. He then hands Puck Chris’s pendant.

“Lay it on me. What’s the job?” Puck asked eager to get payback on June.

Chris puts all his books in his locker the next day at school and gets some out including some stuff for his next class. Luckily for him, he managed to see a doctor in the outer realms and got back in time before the first bell.

“Well, at least I’m cured of my injuries. But now what? I lost my pendant June has given me.” Chris said with a groan. The pendant was important to him. June has given that pendant to Chris so he would know when there’s a problem. Each time it activated, he was very eager as he gets a chance to fight along his girl. But now, it represents something else now.

Chris sighs. As he begins to walk to his next class of the day, a voice interrupts him.

“Hey kid! Over here.”

Chris turned and looked around. There appears to be no one in sight.

“Who’s there? Okay, who’s toying with me now?” Chris said annoyed. He’s not in the mood for any games or attacks since the first one with the mysterious attacker began.

“Down here!”

Chris looked and is surprised to see…

“A Helper Elf?” Chris asked.

“My name is Puck and like you guess, I’m a Helper Elf.” Puck said with a hidden smirk.

“What do you want?”

“Like my name said, I came to helped you. And from what I heard and from the way you look, you need it.” Puck said, observing Chris.

“Look, no offense, but I am not in the mood to be talking to elves, Helper or otherwise.” Chris said as he begins to walk away.

“Not even with Juniper Lee?”

Chris stopped and turned. “What do you mean?”

“Well, word is you got together with her. Congratulations on that and all. You are so lucky to have her before anyone else does.” Puck said with a smile.

“Wait, what do you mean?” Chris asked puzzled.

“Well, you got to admit June’s an attractive girl, right?” Puck asked.

“Yeah…”

“So what makes you think she doesn’t have guys lined up to go out with her?” Puck asked.

Chris paused to think about this, then he frowns.

“That’s crazy. Are you suggesting that June may be playing with me?” Chris asked.

“Oh, I wasn’t saying that. Then again…” Puck begins to think, then shrugs. “Aw, forget it.”

“What?”

“Forget it. It isn’t important.” Puck said, turning to leave.

Chris grabs Puck and got in his face. “What are you going to say?”

Puck smiled. “Oh, the fact is that word is that she has a crush on some guy. What’s his name? I think its Marcus.”

Chris frowns deeply. Marcus is the cool guy that got along with everyone, but he never had a girlfriend, not for lack of trying on the girls’ parts. There were more fights over who would ask him out than anything else.

Chris also remembers that he often sees June giving out googily eyes and an upset stomach whenever she’s around Marcus. He also remembers that June danced with Marcus at a prom years before and how she often hangs with Marcus. Chris was jealous because of this.

‘But that’s crazy. June is with me now. She couldn’t be seeing that Marcus guy? Could she?’ thought Chris. But the more he thought of it, the more he get jealous.

“Uh, can I be put down now?” Puck asked.

Oh right. In the heat of the moment, Chris forgot that he’s still holding Puck. Chris set Puck down, then the bell rings.

“Crud! I’m late for class!” yelled Chris as he grabs his things and runs to his next class.

Puck chuckles as Chris leaves. “Well, one down…”

June is in class listening to the teacher’s boring lecture. It was so boring that the teacher didn’t notice that none of the kids were listening, especially June.

‘Man. I wished lunch or the end of school is here. I got to go back to Chris.’ thought June bored.

“Psst. Psst.”

June sat up sternly. She has heard that ‘psst’ before. She looks around and frowns upon seeing a familiar figure.

“You again.” said June annoyed.

“Hey June. Long time no see, former boss.” said Puck waving.

“What do you want? Plan to get me in trouble by cheating on my homework like you did years ago? Well, forget it! I am not hiring you so you could do it again! You are obviously working for another creep with a grudge.” snapped June annoyed.

“Whoa, whoa, June. You got it all wrong. I’m on the straight this time.” said Puck in pretend shock and hurt. “And besides, you got all the help you need so you don’t need little ol’ Puck.”

June narrows her eyes. She doesn’t trust this guy since he got her in trouble and she never will. “If you aren’t here to help me, then why are you here?”

“Congratulations on your relationship with that fire caster guy. What’s his name? Chris?” Puck asked pretending not to know him.

“Yeah.”

“Exactly. You two make a great couple.”

June blushed. “Thanks.” Then she snapped to attention. “Now get lost, will ya?”

“Okay, but don’t come crying to me when you find out.” Puck said turning to leave.

This got the Te Xuan Ze’s attention. “What? Find out what?”

“Well, let me asked you something,” Puck said, glancing at Jody who is the only one in class paying attention to the lecture. Ophelia next to her just sat there, bored out of her name. “That cheerful girl, that Jody girl, did she and your other pals knew about…”

“Yeah, yeah, they know.” June said, annoyed. She gets the picture that Roger seen her and Chris kissed the other day and she doesn’t like to be reminded.

“Did you guys talked about your relationship or what?” Puck asked, taking a bite out of an apple from his pocket.

“Well, Ophelia did asked how is Chris and Jody did make a kissy face and all.” June said blushing as she remembered that embarrassing yet wonderful moment.

“Well, anything else? What did the cheerful girl say?” Puck asked somewhat anxious.

“She said as she, Ophelia, and Roger are happy for me and that he’s the cutest guy in our group since I know him.” June smiled warmly. “Of course, it’s true. Oh, and I make a joke, asking Jody if she was thinking of dating him and that she said ‘don’t be silly. We know you have a crush on him’.”

“Well, what makes you think she actually meant that?”

What Puck said caught June by surprise, the second time today. “What do you mean?”

“Well, she never actually said that she didn’t want to date Chris, right?” Puck asked.

“Uh…no, I don’t think so. But I’m sure she meant it.” June said, though unsure.

“Yet she said that he’s the cutest guy in your group. That’s got to make you suspicious, right?”

Come to think about it, what Puck said actually made sense. June notes how Jody wants to hang Chris a lot sometimes. Also, whenever Jody calls Chris cute in front of everyone, the boy just blushed. June remember how jealous she was when Chris and Jody are together sometimes.

“One more thing,” Puck added. “Did you friend happened to lose something last night?”

“Uh, I don’t think so.” June said in puzzlement. But then she remembered something and added, “His pendant. He wasn’t wearing it! He must have lost it in the battle!”

“What fight? And do you mean this pendant?”

Puck holds up a familiar pendant. June gasps in shock and takes it from Puck.

“That’s the same pendant I gave Chris! Where did you get this?” June asked Puck in shock.

“Oh, it was in cheerful girl’s locker. I thought it was yours so I decided to give it back.” As Puck notes a stern look on June’s face, he decides to leave. “Well, nice catching up with ya, former boss. Bye.”

With that, Puck disappeared, leaving a conflicted June behind.

‘Chris’s pendant was in Jody’s locker? The locker of my best friend?’ thought June as she takes a glance at Jody. ‘But…I thought he lost it in that battle the same time he got injured. But…could he have lied because he was…with Jody?’ thought June. Then she frowns deeply.
